For years, International Coatings has been pro-active and in many instances, even ahead of regulations governing certain chemicals as we steadily moved towards a more eco-conscious product line. Some of our most popular products were initially formulated with either no phthalates or without what are now restricted phthalates. All International Coatings inks, except for one or two products designed for limited and restricted use, meet current standards for lead and other heavy metals.
Shortly after California and federal regulations restricting the use of certain phthalates in children’s toys and child care articles were announced in 2008, International Coatings began converting all of its product formulas to eliminate any question as to whether and which of its products can be used to meet government regulations and the requirements of major retailers.
Unless otherwise specified, all International Coatings standard ink product formulas manufactured in 2009 now comply with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) (regarding lead and phthalate content) and the Consumer Product Safety Act, Title 16 CFR Part 1303 (regarding restrictions on lead in paint).*
Screen Printing Products
Lead Compliance*
International Coatings’ standard ink products contain less than 90 ppm by weight of lead and comply with the CPSIA of 2008 and the Consumer Product Safety Act, Title 16 CFP Part 1303.
Phthalate Compliant*

|
Unless otherwise specified, International Coatings’ standard ink products are not formulated with the following six restricted phthalates nor are they intentionally added to these inks as part of the manufacturing process: DEHP (Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate), DBP (Dibutyl phthalate), BBP (Benzyl butyl phthalate), DINP (Di-isononyl phthalate), DIDP (Di-isodecyl phthalate), and DnOP (Di-n-octyl phthalate). |
With few exceptions, our ‘phthalate compliant’ ink products are now available for purchase. We are working on the remaining several products that are not yet ‘compliant’ and expect to complete those conversions in the coming months
Once we work down our inventory of products that were formulated ahead of the restrictions (which are OK to use for any application other than children’s toys and child care articles), we will no longer offer ink products that contain any of the restricted phthalate plasticizers.* In the meantime, please be sure to specify when you order if you require phthalate compliant inks now. And look for the ‘Phthalate Compliant’ sticker on the containers.
In addition to our full line of “Phthalate Compliant” inks, International Coatings offers several eco-friendly ink lines that are either Phthalate-Free, or PVC and Phthalate-Free.*
