GEN IV Update

GEN IV Foil Adhesive on Distressed Artwork

International Coatings invited printing guru Mike Beckman to our tech center to work with the GEN IV PVC-Free, Eco Friendly ink line.  Mike has worked extensively with GEN IV abroad. His insight and experiences were invaluable.  Read his latest article on “green techniques” published in May’s Impressions magazine here.

Introducing NEW Metallic Shimmer Colors

Due to popular demand, International Coatings is introducing four new fashion colors to our line of pre-mixed Metallic Shimmers:  146 Ruby Red Metallic, 148 Royal Metallic, 149 Purple Metallic and 147 Green Metallic.

The new Metallic Shimmers add a bright, non-tarnishing metallic sparkle to printed garments.  The inks contain fine, shimmering glitter flake in a low bleed, low fusion, easy-to-print base that performs well on automatic and manual printers.

The new fashion colors enhance our existing line of Metallic Shimmers which also include 156 Metallic Silver, 157 Metallic Gold and 158 Metallic Copper.  Read our press release here.

New Water-Base Discharge Available Now

Recently, we introduced our 3707 Discharge Base and 3709 Discharge Activator during the ISS Show in Long Beach.  We’ve had many requests since the show and are pleased to announce that the Discharge system is now in stock and ready to ship!

Discharge is back in style.  Hands down, we offer an excellent reactive dye discharge system.   Use it as a stand alone system or as an underbase to achieve a softer hand.  Our water base Discharge system has a high viscosity allowing for ease of printability, and quick and simple cleanup with water.
3707 Discharge Base and 3709 Discharge Activator are easy to use.  Anti corrosion pigments (discharge-compatible pigments) can be added to achieve brilliant discharge colors.  Charlie Taublieb recently wrote an article on various discharge methods for our New Products bulletin.  To read Charlie’s article, click here.

Product Spotlight: 7600 Series Stock Colors

Our print experts and loyal 7600 customers all agree: the 7600 Series offers brilliant colors and is a high-performance, opaque ink that is creamy and low tack, easy to print, and great for halftones and fine meshes.
The 7600 Series is one of International Coatings’ most popular products.  Try some out today!  Ask your International Coatings’ distributor about the 7600 Series.

Print Technique Spotlight

Ed went to the MAGIC show recently and came back confirming that Metallics are one of the hottest trends in fashion.  Check out the various foil and glitter techniques we have been demonstrating in this and previous Newsletters.

Ed’s latest innovative print technique is the BlowOut Metallic Crinkle Effect.

Here’s how it’s done:

3 screens needed for production runs.

Flash

Screen #2 = 3810 Blow Out Base 90%,  7422 Black CC 10% - 25 Mesh

Flash

Screen #3 = 3811 Granite Base 75%, 96 LF Metallic Silver 25% - 40 Mesh

Cure @ 330º F for 1 minute

Heat Press Application:
Use matte or teflon paper.  Crinkle paper first. Apply paper over print in heat press. 350º F, 25 psi, 25 seconds.

Peel carefully and Voila.

Seminar News

International Coatings recently conducted a workshop featuring Ed Branigan at Pasadena City College in California.  Ed showcased specialty printing techniques using our new 3811 Granite Base and the new 3707 & 3709 Discharge system.  The students loved Ed’s imaginative techniques and hands-on methods.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with such creative and talented students!
